From Scared to Sacred: The Messy Art of Stepping Out of Our Comfort Zone
If there’s something I’ve learned during my twenties an now early thirties, is how to meet myself beyond my perceived comfort zone. I’ve leapt and soared and fallen, all because I have been meeting myself in the unknown and choosing to stay curious and say yes more often than saying no. This blog isn’t to over-romanticise this process, or to give you a step-by-step plan on how to live your wildest dreams. Rather, explore this as a love letter to falling down and getting back up, and staying devoted to the path of growth - especially when it gets really hard.
Conscious communication: from ‘but’ to ‘and’
Language, perhaps, is the most all-encompassing form of expression we have. It’s the everyday vehicle through which our inner world travels, and one of the most important tools we have to form and maintain relationships. Through language, we express our feelings, needs, boundaries, appreciation and our love. It bridges what we experience internally and what the other is able to perceive and understand.
The Fluidity of Rest: Recharging like the Moon
As so many of us, I, too, have a nuanced and sometimes complicated relationship with rest. Being familiar with anxiety, for a long time I don’t even think I knew how to rest. And when trying to relax, I wondered why lying in a bubble bath or reading a book on the couch made me feel fidgety, distracted, uneasy. Last week I accidentally cut someone off while driving and it felt really icky. I had this little moment of closing in my body. Ugh, I felt that. And then yesterday I read a comment from someone who said some mean words. And there it was again, this closing reaction of my body. Not a big intense reaction, just a little squeeze. And I was reminded that this happens- we have these little moments all the time in little ways. Just humans relating day to day. Everyday life is filled with little moments of contractions.
